Champions League by Kvaratskhelia as Napoli race into 3-0 lead

Liverpool were absolutely blown away by Napoli in the first of their Champions League group stage opener.

The Reds arrived in Naples full of optimism, but that quickly disappeared after just five minutes of play.

A stupid handball from James Milner gifted Napoli a penalty and Piotr Zielinski duly converted the spot kick to put the hosts 1-0 up.

Napoli had the chance to go 2-0 ahead soon after, but Victor Osimhen missed from 12 yards after he was upended in the box by Virgil van Dijk.

The Italian outfit eventually made it two through a brilliant goal by former Fulham midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Giovanni Simeone then came off the bench to make it three shortly before the break.

And in the build-up to the third goal of the evening, Liverpool’s Joe Gomez had an absolute shocker.

The England international was guilty of some Sunday League-esque defending up against the exciting Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who then teed up Simeone for a tap-in with his very first touch.

Check out the horror show from Gomez…

What on earth was he thinking?! Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t exactly help matters, but that’s awful from Gomez…
